After a long day, it’s nice to grab a cold bottle of beer and relax on that rickety old but perfectly comfortable old chair, while watching the sunset and feeling the cool evening breeze out on the patio. It’s also the perfect place to exchange friendly banter with old friends after a heartwarming meal.

Which is why it’s a must to keep your patio in topnotch condition. It doesn’t only add to your curb appeal- a patio that is well taken care of can last for many decades. And, perhaps the best material you can use for you patio is… ta da- concrete.
No- it doesn’t have to look too industrial and plain, aka boring. The look of concrete can be enhanced in many different ways, one of them being stamping.

Here are the best ideas for stamped concrete patios so you can have your looking fab and welcoming in no time:

Wood Plank

One of the easiest and most creative ways to stamp concrete is by using wood planks. It gives your patio a nice wooden look while benefiting from the undeniable durability and long life span of concrete.

There are different wood planks you can use to achieve different looks, from wide textured planks to long and thin boardwalks.

Shading

A concrete patio in different shades and colors can turn out to look perfectly aged yet still vibrant. If you want charm and a splash of color, this is the stamping you should definitely go for. It can be partnered with other stamping styles for a more creative and seamless look.

Brick Patterns

If the look of old Europe is more your style, you can opt for brick like patterns, such as intricate herringbones, or London cobble. Or, you can stick with the basic brick pattern for a timeless facade. You can even mix these up with a bit of shading to achieve that slightly worn look, or use different tones to give your patio a bit of edge.

Ashlar

An ashlar stamping can be versatile. If you choose to go with an ashlar slate design, you can be sure to have your patio looking timelessly elegant. While, if you want to rock larger ashlar slates, get ready for some pleasantly eye popping aesthetic.

Then, you can spice things up even further by staining the concrete into whatever shade you prefer, like oranges, browns, or grays. Depending on which one you choose, your patio can look industrial, homey, bright, or rustic.

Finally, if you want to go for luxury, you can recreate the look of bluestone pavers with large ashlar stamps and the right stain.

Flagstone

Another stamping style that recreates stones is by doing flagstone stamping. It makes your patio look natural and gorgeous, and like you spent thousands of dollars on it. You can also stain it in varying shades of brown, like dark roast and coffee, or leave it bare! Or if you want, you can opt for a mix of earth tones and light shades of gray for a more interesting look.

Another alternative is to create a more polished look by using gray stains and white outlines.

Slate

While your patios should always be clean and dry, you can give it a perpetually wet look by going for a slate stamping coupled with high gloss finish. It looks elegant and expensive, and definitely eye catching.

Brown Travertine

Now, this one gives you the perfect balance of rough hewn and tamed outdoors, what with the rock inlays giving your patio a unique look.

Random Styles

The look of natural stones work great not just for patios, but also for walkways. Random stone styles are the perfect accent for any backyard, patio, or pool area. You can imitate the look of flower rocks by stamping small stones- perfect for areas near the poolside.

These can also be stained in varying shades of brown, orange, and gray.

European Fan

Here is the most intricate stamping design yet- European fan stamps. Seriously, it doesn’t get more European than this. It looks beautifully ornate, aesthetically pleasing, timeless, and makes you think of frilly dresses and tea time.

The best look is to leave them bare, but you can also stain them with light shades of brown and gray.

When you mentioned that brick patterns are a great way to use concrete to give a patio a very European feel, I was reminded of my sister and her outdoor home extension project. Knowing her, she absolutely loves European architecture, and she would want to incorporate it into everything she does since she's such a fan of works from that area. Once I find a contractor that can help her out with her concrete jobs, I'll make sure to bring this up with them so she gets what she's looking for.
