2. Increase Home Value

High-quality flatwork can increase your home’s value and enhance your curb’s appeal. It can increase your ROI if you are looking at investing or selling your home.

3. Easy to Maintain

You don’t need to worry about weeds coming out from the surface like the ones you might get from brick and stone. You will only need a garden hose or a power washer when it comes to maintaining it.

Disadvantages of Concrete Flatwork

Similar to all types of construction materials, some problems are unavoidable.
Here are the common disadvantages you need to know:

1. Cracked Edges

Any type of hard surface’s edges can break of chip. This is caused by erosion or impact; although these type of problem can be fixed when it’s small.

2. Settling

Concrete is designed for strength, but is not a flexible type of construction material. Settling is common since soils tend to shift up and down as time goes by. Small shifts are okay, but if it becomes large, it can become a problem. It is a serious and expensive problem and even repairs may not even be a good option.

3. Dirty or Stained

Dirt or grease can be easily removed by power washing. The best way to prevent spill stains is by sealing it.

It's awesome that flatwork can last up to 30 years without needing any repairs because I'm trying to decide what to pave my driveway in. Since it's easy to maintain, I won't have to worry about spending too much time taking care of it. My husband will like that for sure.

Spot on with all of these. Concrete's a popular material for good reason but without regular maintenance and the help of a professional, it can become a headache. However, if you're diligent about maintaining it it adds a lot of curb appeal and money in your pocket when you sell! Thanks for sharing.

When pouring a smooth surface, such as walkways, be mindful that if the surface gets wet it can get slippery. Just doing a bit of "roughing" up the surface, even with soft broom strokes, will help to avoid slips. Thanks for the article. Good information in there!

To me there isn't a better looking outdoor man-made surface than a good laying of concrete. The maintenance free aspect of it is virtually unbeatable. I love it!

It's great how you elaborated on the durability of professionally installed concrete flatwork. The part about it being able to support vehicles is especially helpful since I planned to have a large garage structure to support the cars that I and my guests always use since I regularly have visitors over who use cars to get to my place. Once I find a concrete contractor in the area, I'll make sure I talk to them about my garage plans.

It's wonderful when you shared that concrete flatwork can last for at least 30 years because of its durability. My mother just mentioned the other day that she is planning to renovate the garage since the floor is not in great condition due to lack of maintenance from the previous owner. I will suggest to her hiring a reliable concrete contractor who can help to fix the condition of the garage so it will look great again.
